THERE was a festive mood in Perak with an abundance of Chinese New Year open houses everywhere.
The Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) held its open house at the Kinta Riverfront Hotel and Suites in Ipoh last Sunday with guests numbering in the hundreds.
It was a vibrant occasion as SM Poi Lam students entertained those present with a captivating dance performance.
Multilingual singer Estee Pook also took to the stage, showing off her vocal prowess with a couple of songs, including?Getaran Jiwa by P. Ramlee and?Thank you for the Music by Abba.
Joined by PCCCI committee members, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who was guest-of-honour at the event, impressed guests when he sang?He Xin Nian and?Gong Xi, Gong Xi.
They later took part in a?yee sang tossing session.
On the same day in Chemor, the basketball court and main hall of SJK(C) Pei Cheng was packed with people enjoying a sumptuous spread during the open house organised by Tambun MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah and 180 Chinese non-governmental organisations.
Ahmad Husni, who is also Second Finance Minister, his wife Datin Seri Fauziah Kamarudin and Manjoi assemblyman Datuk Nadzri Ismail spent almost two hours greeting the steady stream of visitors while posing for photographs with them.
Visitors were entertained by various performances including a dragon and lion dance by the Ma Chang Athletic and Cultural Association as well as a Chinese drum performance.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha attended the Manjung Chen Clan Association Chinese New Year celebration in Kampung Koh, Sitiawan.
Several hundred clan members, both young and old, attended the event last Sunday.
Expressing happiness to see so many Chens back in their hometown to celebrate the festival in a harmonious manner, Kong said get-togethers with family and friends were a vital part of the celebration.
?The celebration is a time to look forward to greater wealth, building stronger relationships and improving health,? said Kong, who is also Lumut MP.
