We've been going there pretty much since it opened in 1986, just about the time we moved to the area. It's undergone a few changes over the years (for the better) and it's always been there, familiar and comforting and, most importantly, serving great food.
We do a sneaky thing where we have a main course and a starch for starters and the same again for main course, so we can savour the food and spread our dinner out while we sip our wine (they have a very good wine list). So tonight we started with the always amazing satay prawns szechuan style with green peppers and a portion of special fried rice. Seriously, I challenge you to find a better Chinese dish using prawns. It's tasty with really crunchy veg, an amazing sauce and perfectly cooked juicy prawns. And absolutely heavenly with the amazing special fried rice which is packed with little morsels, like shrimps, tasty bits of pork and fresh, sweet vegetables. Instant happiness.
Next up griddle sizzled beef with spring onions and ginger and Singapore noodles. We hadn't had this dish for a while and had forgotten how amazing it is. Again superb sauce and perfectly cooked veg and the beef was melt-in-the-mouth...
There are over 100 dishes to choose from on the amazing menu, encompassing such a range of things you are bound to find exactly what you want. With most main courses priced between ?9 and ?12 it's really good value too. And the restaurant is beautifully decorated and peaceful with low lighting, fish tanks and friendly service.
We left full and extremely satisfied with our tasty dinner, as we always have in our visits to Bayee Village over the last 26 years (scary thought). You can check out the menu at www.bayee.co.uk. If you live anywhere near, I really can't recommend it enough for a lovely Chinese night out.
Bayee Village is at 24 High Street, Wimbledon Village. And if you fancy a drink before dinner, the famous Wimbledon pub, the Dog and Fox, is right next door.
